SSC CGL 2017 notification is now released, & as per SSC calendar 2017-18, SSC CGL exam is scheduled from 5th Aug to 23th Aug 2017. This article talks about the SSC CGL Syllabus & Exam Pattern 2017 for Tier I, II, III to help you in preparation and set a strategy for your dream exam. Changes in SSC CGL Exam Pattern 2017 Tier 1 & 2
- Now SSC will conduct both, Tier I and Tier II exam in online mode.
- Reduce the time limit for examination of Tier -I from 75 minutes to 60 minutes.
- SSC CGL Tier II will remain same.
- Introduce a descriptive paper of 100 marks within 60 minutes in pen and paper mode.
- No Sectional Cut off.
The Examination will be conducted in four tiers as indicated below:

SSC CGL Tier I Exam Pattern
SSC CGL Tier I is mandatory for all the posts and its marks are added for further process as well. If you do not clear cut-off of Tier I Exam then you will not be eligible for Tier II. In Tier II two papers are conducted on the same day. One is Quantitative Aptitude and the second one is English. The questions in this section are designed to test the ability of appropriate use of numbers. The scope of quantitative ability is clearly defined and is limited to class 10th level mathematics. If you have good command over this section, you can score good marks. The exam syllabus of SSC CGL Tier III isn't much different from previous above. It will be written examination (offline mode) in which Precis Writing/Essay/Formal Letter/Informal Letter are asked. The time duration for tier III exam is 60 minutes.Important Note:(i): Paper-I & II are compulsory for all the categories of posts.(ii): Paper-III is only for those candidates who apply for the post of Statistical Investigator Gr.II & Compiler.(iii): Paper IV is only for those candidates who apply for the post of Assistant Audit Officer.(iv): Candidates opting for the post of Compiler and/or Statistical Investigator Gr. II and Assistant Audit Officer must ensure that they possess the requisite qualification as mentioned above. Commission reserves the right to take appropriate action against applicants who do not possess the requisite eligibility while opting for the post of Compiler and/or Statistical Investigator Gr.
